David Andrew Dycus-76, formerly of Knoxville, passed away at his home in Orlando, FL on Friday, October 20, 2017 following a long illness.

Born June 16, 1941, in Knoxville, Tennessee, David was a 1959 graduate of Holston High School. He had fond memories of his classmates and kept in touch with several of them over his lifetime. He enjoyed reminiscing about his varsity basketball days and would proudly show any friend or family member a photo of his old team that he kept in his home office. David was also a member of the Houston Track Team, Letterman's Club, and Key Club.

David attended the University of Tennessee ("UT") from 1959-1963, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree and placing at the top of the Business Administration class. He was president of the honors fraternity, Beta Gamma Sigma, and a member of the honors fraternities, Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Eta Sigma.

Immediately after college, David entered law school at UT, earning his law degree in just two years. During law school, David was also a member of the Tennessee Law Review.

From 1966-1969, David served his country in Vietnam as a Navy JAG officer. Following his tour of duty in Vietnam he worked in the Navy JAG at the Pentagon. After his military service, David joined the Washington D.C. law firm of Howrey, Simon, Baker and Murchison as an antitrust associate. David was later recruited by the Chattanooga law firm, Schumaker & Thompson, and by age 30 was promoted to a named partner of the firm. During his years at Schumaker, Thompson & Dycus, David was also named President of Title Insurance Company of Chattanooga.

Later in life, David had a successful career in commercial real estate developing shopping centers and office buildings in Florida. He also worked in residential real estate.

On June 20, 1992, David married Diane Hope Bolton and they celebrated their 25th anniversary this past June.

David will be remembered by his family, as a devoted and adoring husband, and loving father and grandfather. He will also be remembered for his great patriotism and high regard for military veterans. He had a continuing interest in politics and debate, a fervent loyalty to the Tennessee VOLS; a gifted photographic memory; a great appreciation of history; a consistent kindness and generosity to strangers and a natural desire to keep learning. He loved animals and children, and his friends will likely remember his "town mayor-like" ability to name, and actually know, every person dog or cat in his neighborhood. And finally, David will be remembered for his great strength, dignity, determined spirit and genuine love of life.
