James Craig Hayes ("Jim") was born on September 8, 1950 to Mary Catherine Rott of Columbus, Ohio and Oscar Audis Craig of West Virginia. He was raised by his grandparents, Joseph Frederick Rott, Sr. and Jessie Clara Bratton Rott. He graduated from Central High School in Columbus and was drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam War. Jim was stationed in South Korea and met his future wife, Young Ju. His two daughters, Michelle and Jenny, were born while he was stationed in Texas and Germany, respectively. After almost 7 years serving his country, Jim moved back to Ohio with his family. In 1980, Jim earned an Associate's Degree (with Honors) in Business from Columbus Technical Institute, and he entered the Manager in Training program with Domino's Pizza. After a successful run as the manager of various Ohio State University campus stores (and earning several Manager of the Year nominations), Jim started his own Domino's franchise. In 1984, he built his first Domino's store in Altus, Oklahoma. After much success, Jim and his wife decided on a change of pace and relocated to Livermore, California in the San Francisco Bay Area. There, Jim owned the Domino's store from 1998 - 2005. Jim and Young Ju then were given the opportunity to build a new store in Reno, Nevada. They ran stores in the Reno area from 2005 until 2014, when Jim retired from the pizza business due to his declining health. In August 2016, Jim and Young Ju relocated to San Jose, California to be close to their daughters. Jim died on October 18, 2017 from advanced prostate cancer and end stage renal disease. Jim will always be remembered as a kind family man who was passionate about his business and truly cared about his employees. He lived the "American Dream." Jim will be forever missed by his wife of 45 years and his two daughters. On October 26, 2017, Jim received a Veteran's burial at Oak Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park in San Jose, California.
