Funeral services were held at the Jones Mortuary, Lakeport, Friday, for Mrs. Myrtle Best, 79, who died Feb. 5 in Ukiah Hospital. Mrs. Best was born in Lakeport, June 25, 1882, the daughter of the late Milton and Dollie Wambold Lake County pioneers.

She received her education at the Pioneer Academy at Lakeport and graduated as a nurse from Saint Luke's Hospital in San Francisco in 1906.

Mrs. Best lived in Lakeport until 1954 and then made her home with her daughter, Phyllis.

She is survived by one son, Sam Shortridge, Ukiah; two daughters, Mary Chalfant, Santa Rosa, and Phyllis Weymouth, Covelo; two brothers, Ralph and Harve Wambold, Lakeport, and one sister, Evelyn Barnum, Weed. Also surviving are six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and two nephews.

Services were conducted by the Reverend Frank Ritchie of the Lakeport Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Hartley Cemetery, Lakeport.

On 14 Nov 1907, Myrtle married Samuel Benton Shortridge in Lake County. He was born about 1873 in Des Moines, Iowa. By 1920, they had divorced, leaving her with four children. On 12 Jun 1924 in Ukiah, she married Charles A. Best, born about 1876 in Wisconsin.
