Robert Erwin "Bob" East, 82, of Stuarts Draft passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Born November 23, 1934 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Justus Emanuel and Lorena (Carter) East.
Robert was a graduate of Fishburne Military School-Class of 1953. He served his country honorably with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict where he was stationed in Toyko, Japan. Following his service to his country, he attended and graduated from Salem College in Salem, WV. Prior to retirement, he was employed with Wilson Trucking where he worked as the secretary and treasurer for 47 years. He was a lifelong cattle dealer and enjoyed farming. Robert was a member of Valley Baptist Church, Stuarts Draft. He will be remembered as an avid Redskins fan, a proud owner of boxer dogs and misfit farm animals, a loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather and a friend to many.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Justus Emanuel East, Jr.; sister, Elizabeth East.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Karen (Hickman) East; son, Robert E. East, Jr. and wife, Sandi of Stuarts Draft; daughters, Julie East Gustin and husband, Mark of Kitty Hawk, TX and Angela East Kean and husband, Kris of St. Croix; grandchildren, Dr. James Erwin East and wife, Dr. Leighanne Ciofreddi of Burlington, VT, Hannah Elizabeth East of Richmond, VA and Chase Kean of St. Croix; great grandson, James Robert East of Burlington, VT; adopted granddaughter, Ashley Garrison of Richmond, VA; very special young farming buddies, Luke Jennings and Mikala Liptrap.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Valley Baptist Church, Stuarts Draft, with Pastor Frank Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park with military honors.
Active pallbearers will be Robert E. East, Jr., Dr. James E. East, Mark Gustin, Jaun Gonzalez, Gary McGann, Lloyd Lee McPhearson, Harry East and Simon Kinsinger.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W.
