Funeral services for Mr. Otha James “Mooney” Davis, Jr., of Dublin, Georgia, will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at The First African Baptist Church, 405 Telfair Street in Dublin. Interment will follow in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery.
Minister Otha James Davis, Jr., was born on February 29, 1952, to Louisiana Davis and the late Deacon Otha James Davis, Sr. He was the oldest of four siblings including the late Carol Davis. He was a 1970 graduate of Oconee High School where he was on the homecoming court and was a captain of the football team. After high school, Mr. Davis joined the United States Navy and served from 1971-1993; while enlisted in the Navy as a cook, he defied all odds while rising to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer-3 (CW03); from which he retired. He was stationed in Japan, Egypt, Bermuda, San Diego, and Jacksonville, Florida; he was also active during the Operation of Desert Storm. He earned a bachelors degree in education studies from Southern Illinois University. He became a minister in 2001 and gave his first sermon at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Texas City, Texas.
