Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at 2:00 PM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette, for Brett Worthington Martin, 59, who passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 in Charleston, South Carolina.

Burial will be in Fountain Memorial Gardens.

Reverend Mark Benge, Pastor of First United Methodist Church, will conduct the funeral services.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Dorothy Joan Stuart Martin; parents, Jack P. and Jane A. Martin; three sons, Mylon A. Martin, Brian J. Martin and John L. Martin; step-children, Nathan Beauchamp, Seth Beauchamp and Selina Beauchamp; four grandchildren, Brett Martin, Kingston Martin, Gavin Martin and Keegan Martin; and three brothers, J. Phil Martin, Jr., Joseph A. Martin and Miles C. Martin.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

A native of Lafayette, Brett graduated from Lafayette High School and attended the University of Southwest Louisiana(now ULL). While in Lafayette Brett worked as an independent petroleum landman.

Brett was a resident of Raleigh, NC for the past 25 years, retiring as a sales executive with Powell Electronics. He was a member of the Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Garner, NC.

Brett was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and searching for arrowheads and other Indian artifacts in the Carolinas, Louisiana, and Arizona. In his youth and as a young man Brett played many sports, but primarily golf in his later years. He remained a big fan of competitive sports, especially football, golf, hockey and horse racing.

Brett was instrumental in forming the social networking group "The Bendel Brats" whose members grew up, like he did, in Bendel Gardens.

Brett will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.

Pallbearers will be Brian J. Martin, John L. Martin, J. Phil Martin, Jr., Joseph A. Martin, Miles C. Martin, and Jack P. Martin, III.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Francis X. Pavy, Emile Vidrine and Ron Stevens.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin &Castille's DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 from 1:00 PM until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, the Martin family asks everyone to consider organ donation to help those in need.
