Lainie was born December 21, 1921, in Ottawa, to Arthur and Martha (Bateman) Carlson. On August 15, 1942, she married Allen G. 'Bud' Spencer of Marseilles, who survives.
She was a member of First Congregational Church of Marseilles, its Ladies Auxiliary and she sang in the choir for over 60 years. She was also a member of the Peru First Congregational Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a volunteer at Community Hospital of Ottawa.
Lainie is survived by her husband, Bud; a daughter, Sally Spencer of Marseilles; a son, Tom (Tracy) Spencer of Marseilles; seven grandchildren, Christopher Spencer, Kevin Spencer, Morgan Spencer, Elizabeth Churchhill, Erin VonderBandt, April Clements, and Bonnie Reilly; and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Claire Carlson.

Burial: Riverview Cemetery, Marseilles.
