She will be lovingly remembered by her uncles, aunts and many cousins: James (Kim) Huyge of Wyoming; Terrence Huyge of Grand Rapids; Timothy (Mary) Huyge of Caledonia; Thomas (Delores) Huyge of Byron Center; Faye Huyge of Grand Rapids Twp. and John (Jack) Francis of St. Johns, Newfoundland. Theresa will also be greatly missed by her best friends, Jennifer (Dennis) Zimmerman and Michelle (Meeusen) Addington and her godchildren, Dane and Faith Addington, all of whom she considered her family. Theresa also leaves behind one of her special cats, Sasha, who has found a loving home with her friend, Vel Duiven.
Theresa attended Chime Elementary school in Kalamazoo, St. John Vianney in Wyoming, and graduated Salutatorian from Kelloggsville High School in 1991. She received her bachelor’s degree from Aquinas College in 1995 as Magnum Cum Laude with a double major in Spanish and Business. Theresa went on to receive a double Masters degree in both Education from Aquinas College and Spanish from Western Michigan University and was working towards accomplishing a doctorate in Spanish. Theresa was a passionate K-12 Spanish teacher in both public and private schools in many different districts. She was also an adjunct professor at Kalamazoo Valley Community College and a published poet. Theresa enjoyed running, hiking, teaching Zumba, volunteering at the Humane Society, being a lector at church, and helping her students and all those around her she loved.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Monday, December 4, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 936 Lake St. Kalamazoo with Msgr. Michael Hazard presiding. The family will greet visitors beginning one hour before the mass in church. A graveside service will be held at Resurrection Cemetery in Wyoming, MI. at 2:30pm.
