Obituary for Opal Zadora Harvego
Opal Zadora Harvego, 101, a resident of CHI St. Francis Health Center in Breckenridge, MN, died Monday October 23, 2017.

Opal was born on October 31, 1915, in Barney, N.D., the daughter of Phineas and Sarah (Van Couren) McLaughlin.

On March 27, 1941, she married George Harvego in Meadows Township, Rothsay. They lived in Akron Township for 28 years until George passed away in March of 1969. Opal remained on the farm for 2 years before moving into Rothsay. She lived there until her health failed, moving into Pioneer assisted living in Breckenridge (and CHI St. Francis – Breckenridge).

Opal worked for Home Health of Fergus Falls before working at West Central Turkeys in Pelican Rapids for 23 years before retiring.

She volunteered at Partners in Rothsay, helping drive people to appointments, until her health declined. When Partners took seniors on outings, she enjoyed going to Judy Emerys farm to see all the baby lambs and chickens and her many flower gardens, ending with her herbal teas and scones.

Opal was a member of New Life Lutheran Church, and the Ladies Aid and circles. She enjoyed gardening with lots of flowers and bird watching.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, George; 5 sisters, Flosse Anderson, Alma Muehler, Ethlin Coburn, Lillian Johnson, Edith Berg; 3 half-sisters, Alice Johnsrud, Mary Ellen Dorrow, Myrtle (Mary) Solyntjes; 2 half-brothers, George Slattery, Maurice Slattery; 1 grandson, Ryan Harvego; 1 great-grandson, Adam Maack.

Survivors include her 3 children, Dale (Diana) Harvego of Rosemount, Janet (Robert) Maack of Rothsay, Paul (Deanna) Harvego of Litchfield; 6 grandchildren, Shannon Maack, Michael Harvego, Jennifer Ficken, Jeremiah Maack, Keith Harvego, Nathan Harvego; 9 great-grandchildren, Travis, Tyler, Dylan, Ashley, Logan, Sydney, Paige, Faith, Sofia, Gabriella; and 3 great-great grandchildren.
