Joe Wayne Garner, 81, passed away Monday, October 23, 2017, in Booneville, Mississippi. He was born March 10, 1936, to Vance and Ernesteen Garner. He was a graduate of Wheeler High School, and attended Northeast Community College for two years. He married Jane Carol Maxwell Garner on June 7, 1957.

Joe was a farmer, served as a Prentiss County 3rd District Supervisor, served in the Mississippi Army National Guard, a member of the American Legion, served as a Vice President of Farm Bureau, and served on the board of the Northeast Mississippi Planning and Development District. He was a lifelong member of Wheeler Baptist Church. When he was younger, he loved hunting, fishing and auto racing. In his older years, he enjoyed Wheeler High School basketball, traveling, spending time at the farm, and loved spoiling his grandkids.

A celebration of life service will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, October 26, 2017, at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Michael Shook and Bro. Marty Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Booneville Cemetery.

Joe is survived by one daughter, Monte (Chad) Garrett; two sons, Mitchell (Terry) Garner and Mack (Rae) Garner; one sister, Martha Nell (Bobby) Smith; one sister-in-law, Betty Maxwell (Hoyle) Eaton; seven grandchildren, Nathan (Miranda) Garner, Ashley Garner (Nick) Berry, Bronson (Nicole) Ganger, Layken Garner, John Mack Garner, Madison Garrett and Marley Garrett; and two great-grandchildren, Mason Vance Garner and Ricki Lynn Ganger.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Jane Garner and his parents.

Pallbearers are Nathan Garner, Bronson Ganger, John Mack Garner, Nick Berry, Kevin King and Jeff Sanford.

Visitation will Wednesday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
