Swedish Lutheran Archbishop of Uppsala. He served in this position from 1856 until his death, succeeding Hans Olov Holmstrom. Orphaned at an early age, he managed to obtain a degree in theology, philology and church history at Lund University in Lund, Sweden. He later published a thorough history of the Church in Sweden, and became a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1848 and of the Swedish Academy in 1852. He died at the age of 74 and was succeeded by Anton Niklas Sundberg.
