Lois M. Balander, 85, of Spencer, died Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Athens Health & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on November 25, 1931 in Waverly, N.Y., the daughter of Herman and Ellen (Pepperard) Porter. She was predeceased by husband Leo V. Balander and brothers Ellsworth and George Porter.
Lois is survived by daughter Marie Balander and her friend John Wilcox; sisters Marion (Robert) Wild, Sayre and Winifred Hetherton, Elmira; brother-in-law Robert Balander, Albany; several nieces and nephews.
Lois graduated from Robert Packer School of Nursing and Cortland State Teachers College. She was a school nurse teacher for Spencer and Candor schools. She was a member of Christ The King Fellowship Presbyterian, Finger Lakes Finns and very active in the Eastern Star. Lois was an avid bowler and enjoyed golf, cards especially bridge, gardening and walking. For many years Lois and Leo enjoyed the football dinners with friends. They traveled to many states and countries after retirement.
Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Allen-Manzer Funeral Home in Spencer. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. before the service. Interment will be in the Lockwood Cemetery.
