Opal Edwards Wood are scheduled for Saturday, October 28th, 2017 at 10:00AMat Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland, TX with Dr. John Gerlach officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery-Midland.

Opal was born April 29, 1930 in Ft. Worth, TX to Pat E. & Lou E. (Pickard) Edwards.

She graduated as valedictorian from Channing (TX) High School and attended Texas Tech University.

She married Louis Dean Wood in Amarillo, TX in 1947.

After living in Wichita Falls, Ft. Worth, Dallas and Lubbock, Dean and Opal moved to Midland, TX in 1953.

Opal was a member of Crestview Baptist Church in Midland, TX and so enjoyed Single Adult I class and the ladies in that group.

She enjoyed playing bridge with several different groups and those ladies were an important part of her life.

Opal was in Desk & Derrick Club of Midland for many years and treasured the friendships that were made there.

She was a member of Midland Woman’s Club for several years and made many wonderful friends there, as well.

She worked for Robert L. Wood, Sr. for over twenty years and Stephen C. Helbing, Sr. for 10 years and did so enjoy her career with them.

Her grand- and great-grandchildren, were the joy of her life and her favorite times were when they visited.

Opal passed away October 20, 2017.

She was preceded in death by husband, Dean in 1975, father in 1973, mother in 1998 and brothers, Sonny Edwards in 1933 and Dale Edwards in 2013.

Survivors include: Son – Skipper Wood (Karen) of Lubbock, TX; Daughter – Dee Ann Outlaw (Bill) of North Richland Hills, TX; Sisters – Tinx Goodwin (Al-deceased) of Hobbs, NM; Chug Plummer (Gale) of Reno, TX; Sister-in-law – Betty Edwards, of Channing, TX; Grandchildren: Jonathan Givens (Leigh-Ann) of Miami, FL; Patricia LoPiccolo (Paul) of Schaumburg, IL; Matthew Osbourne (Briana) of Colleyville, TX; Eric Osbourne (Anna) of Haltom City, TX; Corban Wood (Erika) of Lubbock, TX; Great-grandchildren: Isa LoPiccolo of Phoenix, AZ; Matrix LoPiccolo of Schaumburg, IL; Alex Osbourne and Ben Osbourne of Colleyville, TX; Bruce Wood of Lubbock, TX, and as well as several special nieces & nephews.

Pallbearers are: Matt & Eric Osbourne, Corban Wood, David Goodwin, Bill Outlaw and Mark Plummer. Honorary pallbearers are Stephen C. Helbing, Sr., Erby Chandler, the ladies in Single Adult I at Crestview Baptist Church and Alex & Ben Osbourne.

Memorials may be made in memory of Opal to the charity of one’s choice, Brookdale Hospice DFW (2415 Avenue J, Ste. 112, Arlington, TX 76006), or Crestview Baptist Church Building Fund (301 N. Loop 250 West, Midland, TX 79703).
