Mrs. Shirley Broadnax Huckleby Sherrod died peacefully, in her sleep on October 8, 2017 at her home, at the age of seventy-eight.
Shirley was the second child of Jefferson David Broadnax, Sr. and Josephine Hyde Broadnax. She was born July 6, 1939 in Moss Point, MS. She attended Magnolia High School in Moss Point, where she graduated in the class of 1957. She attended Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, AL and taught school in the Moss Point School District until her retirement in 2004.
Shirley was a member of Refuge Church on Community Street in Moss Point, MS.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Jefferson David Broadnax, Sr. and Josephine Hyde Broadnax; daughter, Donna Delaine; sister, Ruth McClinton; brother, Jefferson David Broadnax, Jr.; and grandson, Jeffery Huckleby.
She is survived by her loving, caring, and devoted son, Eric Huckleby, who cared for her at her residence; son, Frederick Huckleby of CA; grandchildren, Joshua Huckleby of OH, and Jermaine Huckleby of FL, other grandchildren of CA, devoted great grandchildren, Carlton and Destiny Huckleby of Ocean Springs, MS; four sisters and two brothers; three aunts, Essie Richardson, Aleaser Ross and Roslyn Hyde, all of CA; special friend, Mother Luretha Bolden of Moss Point, MS; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relative and friends.
The family would like to give thanks to staff of Southern Hearts Hospice for the loving care provided to our loved one during her illness until her death, Millender’s Funeral Home, and family members and friends for your condolences, visits, calls, monetary gifts, and all other acts of kindness shown us during this time of bereavement.
