Carol L. Evans Schmitt, 72, passed away on October 18, 2017 in Libby. Carol was born on Sept.13, 1945 in Eureka, Mt to John and Gladys (Croucher) Evans. She was one of 12 children.

On April 6, 1981 she married Elmer Schmitt. They enjoyed 36 years together on their property they called the “funny farm”. Family and friends were always first in her heart. Her interests included gardening and tending to her animals, whether they were household pets, farm animals or wild life. She had a tender heart that was sensitive and caring. She faced every day with courage and no complaints.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and one sister, both of her sons; Jim Schelmerdine and Larry Schelmerdine.

She is survived by her husband Elmer, step-son John Schmitt, step-daughters Janice (John) Gardner; Joellen (Greg) Roberts and foster daughter Esther Viset of Uganda; three brothers, Ernie Evans; Ivan (Connie) Evans; David (Mona) Evans; and sister Mavis (Roger) Smith; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 24th at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Libby. Burial will follow at City of Libby Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.schnackenbergfh.com.
