Eddie was born on June 2, 1931, on the Callahan Farm in Buchanan County, north of Winthrop, the son of Ernest and Elsie (Callahan) Lewis. Eddie graduated from Manchester High School where he played football and set the record for most rushing yards in a single game. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Eddie was united in marriage to Norma Jean Zimmerman on July 22, 1955, at the Community Congregational Church in Manchester. Together they lived in Manchester. Eddie was employed at Ryan Creamery hauling whey; Hawkeye Casting, and Exide until he retired.

Eddie was a member of the Community Congregational Church of Christ, Manchester American Legion Post #45, and The Pithians. He enjoyed golfing, his dogs, and cooking.
