SPARTA - Dorothy Faye Huffman, 74, passed from this life Wednesday, October 18, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. She was born April 22, 1943 in Chickasaw County to Calvin Leon and Dorothy Mae Eaton. She spent her working years at PEP/Alcoa Industries, but she was devoted to the Sparta Opry where she served on the board of directors. She was an active member of Amity Baptist Church and played piano for services. She was a devoted mother and caregiver to all who needed her loving touch.
Funeral service for Mrs. Huffman will be Sunday, October 22, at 2 p.m. at Amity Baptist Church with Brothers Walter Butler, Scott Griffin and Butch Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Amity Church Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Saturday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Southern Funeral Chapel in Houston.
She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Thompson Eaton of Sparta; her three daughters: Dorothy Medders & Mark "Spanky" Doss, Dawn Johnson & Mitchell, and Rendie Melton & O.L. all of Sparta; her brother Richard "Bodick" Eaton of Sparta; her sisters Pat Vaughn & Dan, and Peggy Bennett & Larry all of Sparta; her five grandchildren: Crystal Winter & Stephen, Ericka Criddle & Paul, Brian Samuell & Whitney, Laken Yeatman & Bo, and Brandon Samuell; thirteen great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Willie Gene Huffman, her father Leon Eaton and one sister, Barbara Doss; and special cousins Joe & Esther Eaton, and Buddy "Little Bud" Eaton.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Amity Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
Serving as pallbearers will be Rock Eaton, Craig Vaughn, Jay Sterkel, Cal Sterkel, Ricky Doss, Amp Doss, Tebo Huffman, Keith Samuell, and Colton Foster. Honorary pallbearers will be the Sparta Opry Board Members and the HHS 2018 Senior Football Players.
