Corporal Christian (Chris) P.K. Smith, 25, of Crown Point, IN, passed away on October 10, 2017, while on active duty in the United States Marine Corps. Chris, as he was called by his friends, was born in Gary, IN, and was a 2012 graduate of Griffith High School. He had been an active duty Marine since 2012 as an Ammo Tech. He served one tour in Afghanistan, and was on his second term of enlistment. He was most recently the Battalion Ammo Chief for CLB7, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, CA. He is survived by: his father Thomas C. Smith, Crown Point, Cat Ferguson (Momma Cat), Griffith, mother Jennifer Pate Huffman, Hammond, his sister Carly Smith, Lynwood, IL, his brother Nicholas Mohr, Cleveland, OH, his aunt Donna (Jerry) Hofsommer, Griffith, his uncle Clifford Smith (Madonna Fredrickson) Estero, FL, his uncle Ronald Smith, Vidalia, LA, his cousin Scott Brakebill (Lisa), Crown Point, his cousin Kelly Spomar (Tim), Crown Point, IN, and numerous other cousins, family, and friends. He was preceded in death by: his paternal grandfather L. Wayne Smith, Hammond, IN, and his paternal grandmother Cynthia P. Nowak, Vidalia, LA. Christian was loved, admired, and respected by many around him. He was an avid karaoke singer, card player, and online gamer. He was always a source of support for his friends, and went out of his way to make sure the needs of those around him were met. Most recently he hoped to take leave from the Marine Corps to volunteer for hurricane relief in Texas. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at HILLSIDE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 8941 Kleinman Rd, Highland, IN, 46322. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, October 25, 2017 beginning at 9:30 a.m., beginning at HILLSIDE FUNERAL HOME for eulogy and prayers, proceeding to CHAPEL LAWN CEMETERY, Schererville, IN, with full military honors. He will be escorted by the United States Marine Corps and Patriot Guard Riders.
