Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend passed away peacefully on October 20, 2017 surrounded by her family after a short illness.

Janice married the love of her life, Frank Petersen, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 18, 1952. Together, they had three daughters, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Janice spent her life learning and teaching others. She was a trailblazer for working mothers and educators. She taught school in the Granite School District for over thirty years. She dedicated her life to junior high students who had learning disabilities in reading, writing, and math.

She received a Certificate of Appreciation from the United States Department of Education for twenty-five years of service to the Title 1/Chapter1 program. She was privileged to testify in front of Congress about the Operation Prime program she developed for Chapter One. She was awarded Teacher of the Year for the State of Utah.

Janice held many church callings, most notably she was the Organist, Chorister, and Director of the Granger Second Ward Choir for many decades. She led the choir which sang at the dedication of the Jordan River Temple. Janice had a gift for music. She loved it and shared it freely with others.

She was known for her strength, hard work, and great sense of humor. She was an accomplished cook and seamstress. She loved to travel and took many international trips with her husband, Frank. She always made sure the family went on many memorable summer vacations.

She had many wonderful traditions that the family looked forward to every year, such as Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, and the grandchildren trip to St. George to see her much loved Tuacahn shows.

Janice will be particularly missed by her loving husband, Frank; and schnauzers, Bruno and Heidi. She is also survived by her daughters, Kim Moreton (Mike), Shanna Lelli, and Leslie Petersen.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. in the Jordan North Eighth Ward Chapel, 3900 South 4000 West. A gathering will be held on Monday, October 23, 2017 from 6:00.8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road (1700 West), and prior to the services at the church on Tuesday from 11:00-11:45 a.m. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
