Mrs. Thelma Margaret Foley Conner, lovingly known as Grandmommy to her family, age 91 of Roanoke, passed away on October 20, 2017 at Our Lady of the Valley in Roanoke. Born in Patrick County on July 20, 1926, she was the daughter of the late James Edgar Foley, Sr. and the late Lucy Bowling Foley. In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, L. Moir Conner; four brothers, William Clyde Foley, James Edgar “Buck” Foley, Jr., Thomas Glen Foley and Rev. Jack Robert Foley; and two sisters, Helen Foley Cooper and Mary Ruth Morrison. Thelma was a strong and loving person who worked hard in everything she did. In past years she had worked at Dupont, Crestar Bank, but most of all in the family business where she and Moir were truly life partners in building a successful business in the lumber industry and all the while being a terrific homemaker. There really was not much she could not do or at least give it a hearty try. Grandmommy leaves so many wonderful memories and experiences for her family to cherish forever.

Thelma is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Sonny Smith of Roanoke; two granddaughters, Shannon Duff of Gloucester and Whitney Smith of Roanoke; three great-grandsons, Steven Webb, Shanon Webb, Sidney Webb; four great-granddaughters, Emery Duff, Lyla Duff, Marlee Webb and Londyn Tinsley; one sister, Betty Foley Wood and husband, Benton of Stuart; and two brothers, Sam Guy Foley and wife, Helen of Stuart and Marvin Ray Foley of Stuart.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Dewayne Troutt officiating. Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. If desired, memorials may be made to your local Hospice organization. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
Words cannot express the thanks and gratitude for her care from the staff of Our Lady of the Valley, which became part of her family as well. It was obvious that you loved her and she loved you. Also the compassion and support shown for Thelma and her family by Good Samaritan Hospice during her last days have been a blessing to all.
