Mrs. Carrie L. Black Powell passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2011. She was surrounded by her loving family and had just enjoyed her 96th birthday on March 24th.

Mrs. Powell was one of nine children born to Carrie (Plunkett) and Frank Black of Murchison, Texas. Carrie was married to Edward Talmadge Powell for 53 years before his passing in 1986. They were blessed with three children.

Ms. Carrie was a member of Missionary Baptist Church for many years. She loved her back yard filled with blooming plants and cooking delicious foods for her family and friends. She also enjoyed making many quilts for her grandchildren and liked to crochet.

Those waiting with open arms include her parents, Carrie and Frank Black; her husband, Talmadge Powell; sisters, Myrtle Edwards and Thelma Graham; brothers, James Robert “Jim Bob” Black and Carey “Bub” Black.

She is survived by sisters, Florence Peabody, Doris Hansen, Katie Nowlin, and Mary Anderson; children, Barbara Warfield and husband Frank of Round Rock, Texas, A. T. Powell and wife Cheryl of Salado, Texas, and Mark Powell and wife Cindy of Corsicana. She will be greatly missed by her six loving grand-children and their spouses, Bryan Warfield of Plano, Texas, Stephanie Salles and husband Chris of Nashville, Tennessee, Wendy Cook and husband Todd of Arlington, Texas, Michael Powell and wife Kelly of Murphy, Texas, Emily Glidewell and husband Jeff of Corsicana, and Alan Powell of Waxahachie; and her first great-granddaughter, Lillian Star Glidewell. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins who love her dearly.

Visitation with the family will be 6:00-8:00 PM on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Corley Funeral Home. Services will be held at 4:30 PM on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Corley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Curtis Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Fred Drew, Billy Don Watkins, Michael Black, Mark Hansen, Doug Hansen, and Terry Anderson.
