Flight Sgt 650284 RAFVR.
The son of George Henry and Ethel (nee Potts)Gillott, of Sheffield.
He was killed with the rest of the crew of a Vickers Wellington W5795 which was on a training flight classed as 'top secret' due to the aircraft being fitted with experimental long range radar and a pressurised cockpit.
During the flight, at 35000 ft, a propeller blade became detached and tore the pressurised cockpit open. The aircraft broke up in the air and crashed into fields at the village of Stanley.
They are all commemorated on a memorial plaque in St Andrews churchyard, Stanley.
