DUNCAN EUGENE (GENE) E
February 26, 2011. Eugene (Gene) E. Duncan, age 72, of Newport, was born July 20, 1938 and peacefully passed away Saturday, February 26, 2011, at his home after a courageous battle with emphysema. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed life in general. He loved his family and adored his grandchildren, who affectionately called him Pap. He in turn had special nicknames for each grandchild. He was a very generous man and enjoyed giving to all who knew him. He enjoyed making people laugh and his quick wit will be missed by all. Eugene was the son of the late Reece and Ophia Duncan. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years Rose Duncan, son Benny Duncan, grandson Joshua Eugene Duncan, brother Reece Duncan, Jr., and sister Panda Gregg. He is survived by his children and their spouses Tim Duncan, Tony And Sherry Duncan, Susan and Andy Chrisman, and Kenneth Duncan and special friend Tammy Waddell; eight grandchildren; Ben and Jake Duncan, Andy and Caleb Chrisman, Chelsie and Brittany Duncan, Karie Duncan and Luke Duncan; and one great grandson Cade Duncan; brother Paul Duncan; sister Virginia Jaynes; and uncle Don Boley. Additional survivors include several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. The family wishes to express a special word of thanks to everyone at Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011, with funeral services following at 7:00 p.m. in Manes Funeral Home Chapel with his pastor and friend Mike Hensley officiating. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011, in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Family and friends may sign the guest register online at www.manesfuneralhome.com. Manes Funeral Home in charge.
