Billy "Bill" Wayne Murray Sr.
July 16, 1929 - October 18, 2017

Billy Wayne " Bill " Murray, 88 of Panhandle died Wednesday, October 18th in Amarillo. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Monday, October 23rd at First Baptist Church in Panhandle. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Bill was born July 16, 1929 in Amarillo, TX to Joseph Orville and Ammie Lee (Cheatham) Murray. He reported for induction to the Army January 25, 1951 at the basement in the old Post Office in Borger. He served as a sergeant receiving the Bronze Star for merit's service with XI Corps in Korea. He served from Nov. 15, 1951 to September 6, 1952 as a member of service Battery in the 92nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion. He was a lifetime member of the Red Devils 92nd AFA and the James Mecaskey VFW Post 6972.

He married Peggy Inez Caffee Dec. 26, 1981 at Las Vegas, Nevada. He was outstanding Conservation Farmer in 1988. He served on the McClellan SWCD for 12 years. He was in the farming and cattle business most of his life. He was a private person and loved his family and would do anything for them. Bill and his wife Peggy loved going down to South Texas to fish for the winter months for about the last 30 years. They loved their fishing and camping friends and had so many dear friends and many good Memories.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a son Bobby.

Bill is survived by his wife Peggy; son, Bill Murray Jr. and wife Kathy of Panhandle; daughter, Brenda Smith and husband Jim of Amarillo; step-daughters, LaDonna Adkins and husband Kelly of Canyon, Janet Guthrie and husband, Lynn of Canadian; nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, R.J. Murray of Canadian, TX, Jerry Murray and wife, Earlene of Yoakum, TX; sister, LaNell Cummings of Amarillo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
