Born on May 13, 1953, Christopher was the third of five children born to John Finis Chinn and Dolores Boddie Chinn. Affectionately regarded as “Chris”, he was the one child who assured his family there would never be a dull moment growing up.

Chris was born in Sherman, Texas, but received his primary education in the Richardson Public School System. He graduated in 1971 and went on to attend Richland College where he earned an associate degree in Fire Science. He enjoyed a rewarding career as a Fire and Rescue Officer with the Dallas Fire Department. After 35 years, Chris retired from the department although he remained active as a member of the Colour Guard and mentor to young firefighters.

Chris married the love of his life, Vanessa Keller, on February 3, 1979. To their union, two sons were born. The two remained united until his transition on September 30, 2017.

Chris enjoyed many hobbies. His passion even as a child was trains. His fascination led him to become an avid collector and historian. In his later years, Chris became an enthusiastic golfer. He experienced the thrill of hitting a hole in one. Like most Dallasites, Chris loved the Dallas Mavericks and the Dallas Cowboys. He tried out for a punting position and was asked to return in May 1990. Later, the Cowboys realized his age and that was the end of that dream.

Among many ministries, Chris dedicated his time, talent, and treasures to the transportation ministry at Hamilton Park United Methodist Church. Although Chris and Vanessa maintained their membership at Hamilton Park United Methodist Church, they both were actively involved at Abundant Love Fellowship Church where Chris became assistant to the Men’s Bible Study Group until his illness this year.

Chris was predeceased by his parents. Those left to cherish precious memories include his wife of 38 years, Vanessa; son, Corey Christopher Rondell Chinn and his wife, Laura; son, Brian Jonte Chinn; daughter, Kristol Temple; grandchildren: Kamryn, Kailee, Caleb, and Christian Chinn; siblings: Michael Chinn and his wife, Jane, Pamela Chinn Washington and her husband, Eris, Debbie Chinn Vaughn and her husband, Ronald, and Barry Chinn and his wife, Beverly; siblings-in-law: Margaret Reddick and her husband, Thomas, Rev. Audrey Bonner and her husband, Walter, Theodore Keller and his wife, Linda, Billy Keller, and Patricia Everett and her husband, William; dear friend and fellow firefighter, Harold Holland; the Dallas Fire Department; and a host of other relatives and friends.
