Ray Barrett, longtime farmer in the Slayton and Avoca area, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2015 after a long illness. Born Raymond Elwood Barrett on November 30, 1929 in Sioux Falls, SD to Harold Holmes Barrett and Diana Kathryn (Harberts) Barrett, Ray’s father died when he was 15 months old. Ray attended elementary school in Rowena, SD and started high school in Brandon, SD. He transferred to Beaver Creek High School in Beaver Creek, Minnesota his sophomore year, where he met his future wife, Jacqueline Lorraine Lunstra. They were married December 17, 1948 in Sioux Falls, SD and began farming, eventually acquiring a farm in Lime Lake Township in Murray County, MN.
Ray served in varying capacities for 20 years on boards of Nobles Cooperative Electric, and the Minnesota Rural Electric Association. He was also a Pioneer Seed dealer for many years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed playing cards.

He and Jackie are the parents of five children: Dianne (Joe) Judd of Minneapolis, MN; Randy (Dawn) Barrett, of Avoca, MN; Cindy (Jerry) Petrica, of Miltona, MN; Kathy (Jeff) Huston, of Medina, MN; and Kris (Doug) Sill of Eden Prairie, MN; as well as 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his biological parents, his Scott parents, half brother, Gary Johnson, and half-sister Nancy (Johnson) Graham. He is survived by his wife, Jackie; all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and half-brother, Robert Johnson.
