Mr. Dennis Gerald Burns, of Imlay City at the age of 64 years 6 months 4 days was called to his heavenly home on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, after a valiant fight against leukemia. He passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Dennis Gerald, the eldest son of the late George and Ruth Burns, was born on April 14, 1953, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. He grew up in Imlay City with his parents and his two brothers, Steven and Gary.

On September 15, 1973, Dennis was united in marriage with his childhood sweetheart, Miss Debra Dee Dodge.

Music was an important part of his entire life; Dennis was an outstanding clarinetist and musician and played under the direction of the late Mr. John F. Cummins in the Imlay City High School Band. He played clarinet in and conducted the Belle Valley Community Band for over 25 years.

He was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Imlay City, where he sang in the choir and later became Choir Director. He also was the youngest person to serve on Church Council in his teen years.

Dennis’ vocations changed throughout his lifetime. From 1971-1976 he worked with his father at “George’s Signs” in Imlay City. From 1976 -2012 he was co-owner of the family business C.S. Dodge & Sons NAPA Auto Parts, with his brother-in-law, Michael Dodge, in Imlay City, Michigan. Dennis and Debra were sole owners until his retirement in 2015.

He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and hunting. He was also a member of the Michigan Trail Riders Association. With the Trail Riders, Dennis and his wife Debra made nine shore-to-shore crossings of northern Michigan from Lake Huron to Lake Michigan.

…his daughters and their husbands, Salina (George) Mavis of New Baltimore, Stephanie (Brandon) Ogle of Fenton;

Visitation for family and friends of Dennis will be held on Friday, October 20, 3:00-5:00 and 6:00:00-8 p.m. at Muir Brother’s Funeral Home of Imlay City and from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Imlay City.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 21, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Pastor Alan Casillas will officiate.
