Henry Jackson Houghton was born in Tyler, Texas to J.B. Houghton and Laura Monroe Payne on February 28, 1895. Jack served in World War I enlisting on October 19, 1917 in Prescott , Arizona - serving in the 158th U.S Infantry. His discharge date is listed as 20 January 1918 with an address of 2156 Perkins Avenue in Long Beach, Los Angeles County, California. He married Daisy Belle Mimmick on March 9, 1918 in Coconino, Arizona with consent of her father and witnessed by Laura and Betty Webb. Jack was discharged at Camp Kearney on October 21, 1919. Jack and Daisy moved to Los Angeles after the war - the 1920 Federal Census indicates they lived on Wright Street and his occupation was a Street Car Motorman. Jack and Daisy had one child Charles Monroe who was born in Los Angeles on February 8, 1920. Jack was sent to the veterans hospital in Sawtelle on August 9, 1923. The Register for the U.S National Homes for Disabled Volunteer soldiers noted that he was a cook in Los Angeles (both Daisy and his brother James Earnest were listed as contacts). Jack passed away on September 27, 1923 at 714 S. Mott Los Angeles, California (death certificate Local Register #8183) . His Death certificate was filled out by his brother Stearl who listed the father's name as John Montgomery Houghton and Jack was a painter.
