Billie J Bell was born on December 16, 1928 in Cooper, Texas
She attended Cooper schools and graduated from East Texas State Teachers College
First taught PE in Stamford, Texas. She met Johnnie Bell while in the hospital for appendicitis. Both were there at the same time for same problem.
They married in Tyler in 1950. She has two children, Jonna and Julie and three grandchildren, John, Blair and Roxanne.
Moved to Lancaster, Texas in 1952, where she taught first grade. Moved to Emory TX for one year, then taught school in Terrell for two years.
Moved to Dumas, where she taught first grade for two years.
In 1968 moved to Tyler, Texas where she taught school in Frankston until her retirement. When she retired she was attending a year end school function where she was to receive an award. She stood up, started walking to the stage, stopped and said out loud, "I don't have to do this anymore." and returned to her seat.
She was a lifelong Baptist.
She and daddy enjoyed traveling, and did so often after his retirement. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, taking pictures, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was remarkably healthy, especially for a first grade teacher, managing to never have the Chicken Pox, Mumps, or the flu.
She began showing signs of Alz. in the '90's but managed to function very well for a number of years. Her health continued to be robust up until 2 months before her death. Even after the disease had progressed markedly, she was still able to crack the occasional joke. She and daddy were blessed with a couple, Marion (Mar-on) and Mary Ann Galbreath, who were lifelong friends-- they did everything together and remained friends thoughout all of the years.
She will be missed by everyone who loved her.
