Bettie Marie Miller, age 84, passed away October 16, 2017. Bettie was born December 11, 1932 in Cummings, Kansas. She grew up on a farm in Atchison County and attended school there. After two years of college, she taught school in a one-room country school for three years. She married in 1956 and raised five children. Bettie has resided in Pensacola since 1972. She was employed with the Escambia County School District for 25 years, retiring in 1998.
Bettie was preceded in death by her parents, Newell and Nellie Higley; two brothers, Raymond and Russell Higley; one sister, Margaret Emory and a daughter-in-law, Susan Rebecca Miller.
Survivors include her three sons: Rodney R. (Ginny) Miller of Loxley, AL, Alan D. (Christy) Miller of Molino, FL and David S. (Allison) Miller of Powder Springs, GA; two daughters: Deanne M. (David) Sanderson of Robertsdale, AL and Tina C. (Mike) Workman of Pensacola, FL; nine grandchildren: Daniel, Michael, Matthew, Kristen, Kacey and Isaac Miller, Joshua Moye, Brittany Brown and Tristan Workman; seven great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Stella, Olive, Cora, Chase, Suzanna and Scarlett Miller and Kash Brown; one sister, Doris Sutton and one brother, Ed Higley and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends are cordially invited to join the family for a visitation on Sunday, October 22, 2017 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home, immediately followed by a Memorial Service. Burial will follow at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons Daniel, Michael, Matthew and Isaac Miller, Joshua Moye and Tristan Workman.
