Virginia Mae Wood, 90 year old Muskogee resident, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 14, 2017. She was born on Friday, January 7, 1927 in Clarksville, AR to Stokley Liddle and Lula Mae (Smith) Jacobs. At the age of two, Virginia moved with her family to Stidham, OK. She grew up in Stidham where she received her education, graduating in 1946 as the Valedictorian. Virginia met Buford Wood, they fell in love and were married on Saturday, April 24, 1948 at the Courthouse in Ft. Smith, AR. She became a wife, a mother to four children and a great homemaker. In 1967, Virginia began working at Funsten Nut Company on the assembly line until 1983 when the business closed. She enjoyed working in the garden, canning and cooking for her family. She also enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Virginia became a member of Timothy Baptist Church in 1955 where she served faithfully, as a choir member, taught Sunday School and worked as the Church Secretary. She will be missed by all who loved and knew her. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Buford Wood; their daughter, Linda Wood; a sister, Elsie Davis; three brothers, L.W. Jacobs, Herbert Jacobs and Floyd Jacobs. She is lovingly survived by her three sons, Doug Wood and his wife Deborah of Durant, OK, Darrell Wood and his wife Beverley, David Wood and his wife Kellie all of Muskogee. Ten grandchildren, Keasha Kay and Jay Newton, Jeff and Terra Wood, Ashley Wood, Rebecca and Travis Taylor, Matt and Kristi Wood, Joshua and Christin Wood, Cassidy and Donnie Leach, Jennie and Benjamin Bohn, Jeremy and Katie Wood, Jamie Manns and Justin Wood and twenty-two Great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nola Degraffenreed of Tulsa, OK and Neoma Beard and her husband Erdie, of Eufaula, OK., other extended family and a lifetime of friends. Virginia's family will greet friends from 4pm to 6pm on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Timothy Baptist Church. Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Virginia at 1:00 PM, Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Timothy Baptist Church with Reverend Kelly Payne, ministering. Committal prayers and Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with Jeff Wood, Matt Wood, Joshua Wood, Jeremy Wood, Justin Wood and Clay Payne serving as Casket Bearers. Ronnie Holuby, John Edwards and Rick Epps will serve as Honorary Casket Bearers.
