Actor. Tony Award winner. Best known to U.S. audiences for playing Hallyne the Pyromancer in Season Two of "Game of Thrones," and Father in the CBS television series "Beauty and the Beast" (1987-90). Born Roy Louis Dotrice on the Island of Guernsey, his father was a Belgian pastry chef and his mother was an English baker. Dotrice and his mother escaped to Britain in 1940, when Nazi troops occupied Guernsey. Dotrice served in the Royal Air Force during World War II. His plane was shot down over the Baltic Sea in 1942. He and a few survivors floated on a dinghy for a few days before being washed ashore. They were taken prisoner and imprisoned in a German POW camp until the end of the war. Dotrice had a long acting career in television, theatre, radio, audiobooks and film, including the movie "Amadeus" (1984), as Leopold Mozart, the composer's father. He played Charles Dickens in Masterpiece Theater's 13-part series "Dickens of London" (1976), a British monarch in the mini-series "Shaka Zulu (1986), and a priest on the CBS drama "Picket Fence" (1993-96). He won a Tony Award in 2000 for his role as the conniving Irish father and pig farmer in the revival of "A Moon for the Misbegotten." Dotrice recorded audiobooks for each book in George R.R. Martin's series "A Song of Fire and Ice." He earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records in 2004 for the highest number of characters voiced by a single actor for the first book in the series "A Game of Thrones," where he voiced 224 characters. He died at his home in London at the age of 94.
