Bill, the second of four brothers, grew up on his family's farm east of Pella. He was a 1971 graduate of Pella Community High School and went to Auctioneering School in Mason City.
He married Florence Dickman on October 24, 1975, at First Christian Reformed Church in Pella. To this union they were blessed with two children: Eric and Angela.
Bill started his career as an auctioneer with Marvin Vande Lune and then continued on his own for many years. He also had many other jobs including Agency Manager for the Des Moines Register for 15 years. His passion was auctions and auctioneering! Bill was a hard worker who took great pride in his auctioneering and enjoyed collecting antiques. He was a kind, humble man who was always helping people, especially those in need. He loved everyone and was never judgmental. Bill was a wonderful role model and great leader who taught his children to be respectful and to be leaders too.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Florence, his children: Eric and Candy Slycord of Eldridge, Iowa, and Angela and Chris Terlouw of Kilduff, Iowa, and their children: Samuel and Abby Terlouw; his brothers: John and Marie Slycord of Knoxville, and Don and Sheryl Slycord of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother and sister-in-law Ron and Deb Slycord.
