William Jay Slycord was born April 5, 1953, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Peter James and Anna Mae (Vink) Slycord. He passed away on July 21, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Bill, the second of four brothers, grew up on his family's farm east of Pella. He was a 1971 graduate of Pella Community High School and went to Auctioneering School in Mason City.

He married Florence Dickman on October 24, 1975, at First Christian Reformed Church in Pella. To this union they were blessed with two children: Eric and Angela.

Bill started his career as an auctioneer with Marvin Vande Lune and then continued on his own for many years. He also had many other jobs including Agency Manager for the Des Moines Register for 15 years. His passion was auctions and auctioneering! Bill was a hard worker who took great pride in his auctioneering and enjoyed collecting antiques. He was a kind, humble man who was always helping people, especially those in need.
