She was born April 9, 1921, the daughter of Thomas and Annie (Evans) Jamieson, in the home of her grandparents in Hiteman, Iowa. She graduated from Hiteman High School in 1938. She worked at various places in Albia including the office and hospital of Dr. R.A. Smith. She then worked at the Army Ordnance Plant in Burlington, Iowa during the war years. She married John R. Conway in 1945 after his service in WWII. They farmed south of Melrose, Iowa for many years. She was a tireless worker in support of St. Patrick’s Church in Melrose as a lifelong member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was famous for her prize-winning cinnamon rolls. She was also a member of the Irish Maidens, the Green Hat Society, and was an election worker for over sixty years.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000, her parents, four brothers, Marvin, Thomas, Raymond, and David John Jamieson, brother-in-law, Thomas Spurgin, son-in-law, Larry Dinsmore, and daughter-in-law, Martha Conway. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Spurgin of Albia, two daughters, Karen (Harold) Ealy of Belle Plaine, Susan Dinsmore of Oskaloosa, and three sons, John (Cathy) of Wellman, Michael of Melrose, and Christopher (Mary Lynne) of Melrose. She also had fifteen grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 2, 2020 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Melrose with with Father Timothy Armbruster C.P.P.S. officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2020, opening to the public at 2:00 p.m., with Kathryn’s family present to greet family and friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday evening at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. There will also be a Rosary Service conducted at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home Thursday evening. According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event. Mask are required to attend the visitation and services. Memorials may be directed to the Welcome Home Soldier Monument. Online condolences may be left for the family at sinnottfuneralhome.com.
