Carl was born on September 12, 1926 in McAlester, Oklahoma. At age 12 he migrated west to California and soon went to work to help support his mother. Born on the back of a cotton sack, he would say, and did indeed pick cotton. Once old enough and through grit and hustle he moved on to better paying work. Blasting tunnels through the feather river canyon, as a logger clearing right of way for PG&E, and approaching middle age settled into the "easier" work of heavy construction. Upon joining the carpenters union he worked for twenty-five plus years building dams, bridges, and high rises until a serious injury ended his career. Not one to remain idle he sold his old farm house on five acres to buy ten acres down the road because It had a barn. Around this barn he built a beautiful home and planted an almond orchard which he farmed until he could no longer do so. Carl was preceded in death by his wife Betty to whom he was wed for 60 years. He is survived by his son Ed (Leigh), daughters Barbara (Rick) and Sandra (Bill), six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, not to mention numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In the odd poetic way he sometimes spoke, he once said, "I never heard of anyone living always." Nor did Carl. He passed from "his place" with his three kids by his side on the morning of August 20th. He leaves a void in the lives of those who loved him, of which there are many. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved Betty on Saturday, August 26th at 10am at Lakewood Memorial Park, 900 Santa Fe Ave, Hughson, CA 95326.
