Ellen Kelly Ball of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away August 16, 2017 after a courageous battle of cancer.

She was the third child born to Levi and Doris Kelly. She spent the first seven years of her life in the small town of Agua Dulce, Texas, then her family moved to Bishop, Texas where the Kelly family had been early family settlers in the area in 1912. She graduated from Bishop High School in 1973.

Ellen began college at Texas A&I University in Kingsville where she pledged the Chi Omega Sorority. After two years at A&I, she transferred to Southwest Texas State in San Marcos, Texas and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in elementary education. Ellen began her teaching career in Spring, Texas and taught one year before returning to South Texas. Upon her return, she begin teaching in Sinton, Texas for a few years where she met her husband of nearly thirty years, William “Bill” C. Ball. She then began teaching sixth grade in Calallen and continued teaching there until retirement.

Like her mother, she was gifted, with a beautiful singing voice which she used for the glory of God, singing in her church choir and well as a soloist in church and weddings. Ellen was a loving friend, wife, and mother of two beautiful daughters, Abby and Kelly Ball. She loved her family, and loved teaching. She was a fun loving person with a great sense of humor. If Ellen was a friend, you truly had a friend. She had many close friends, many of whom were lifelong friends.

She also loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She showed such faith, courage, and grace as she battled cancer after losing her husband only 1 1/2 years before her death. She will be so very missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Levi and Doris Kelly; and her brother, William “Bill” A. Kelly; and her husband, William “Bill” C. Ball.

She is survived by her daughters, Abby Ball of Irving, Texas and Kelly Ball of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; her sister, Jamie (Bruce) Dugger of Corpus Christi, Texas; her nieces, Lauren (Reese) Weller and Lanna (Greyson) Slough, both of Missouri City, Texas; two great nephews, Reese IV and Graham Weller; several cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Visitation will from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, August 25, 2017 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, Texas (Calallen). Funeral services will be conducted on August 26, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at River Hills Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Simmons officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Memorial Park in Bishop, Texas.

The family has requested memorials be made to Restland Memorial Park, P.O. Box 142, Bishop, Texas 78343 or River Hills Baptist Church, P.O. Box 260200, Corpus Christi, Texas 78426.
