Born to Nettie Pearl Beardon (1899-1991) and Archie Duggan Newsome (1886-1961), she was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who touched the lives of everyone she met.
Mrs. Scott, of Birmingham, attended West End High School and owned Merle Norman Studio in Homewood.
She enjoyed cooking and caring for her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Nonnie Roby (Bill); grandchildren Scott Roby (Jamie) and Jennifer Roby (Jason); great-grandchildren Carter Roby, Gracie Roby and Graham Nelson; siblings Nora Waldrop, Charles Newsome, and Betty Burttram; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Howard Cephus Scott (1918-2007); her son, Howard Cephus Scott Jr.(1944-1996); a great-grandson, William Reid Nelson; and siblings Archie Newsome Jr. and Jean Ferrell.
The family would like to thank the staff of St. Martin's in the Pines, who loved and cared for Mrs. Scott for 4 years.
Visitation will be at Jefferson Memorial of Trussville on Oct. 16, 2017, at 10 a.m., followed by a graveside service at 11 a.m.
