Funeral services were held today for George Edward York who died yesterday in a local hospital at the age of 80. Graveside rites were officiated by the Rev. W. E. McNeely, pastor of the Church of Christ. Interment was in Oakwood Memorial Park. A native of New Mexico, York moved with his family at an early age to Lorranie, Tex. It was there he married the former Lizzie Beth Nichols in 1910. The couple came to Fresno the same year and York was employed in farming until they moved to Santa Cruz in 1917. York was co-owner of a garage on Union street, and after the business was sold he worked for many years as a mechanic for Cunnison Brothers of Soquel. Survivors include his wife, Lizzie York of Santa Cruz; two daughters, Agnes Daugherty of Santa Cruz and Marilyn York of San Lorenzo; a brother, Jim York of Santa Cruz, and a sister, Ruth Evans of Texas. Other survivors are three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. York lived at 2663 Placer street.
