Marla earned a bachelor’s degree from Lee University and a Master of Music Education from Samford University. She was a retired educator and choral teacher for Jefferson County Schools, having taught at Ketona Junior High, Brookside Junior High, Mortimer Jordan High, Rudd Junior High, Johnson Elementary, and Center Point Elementary. Marla served in various choral director capacities at Kimberly Church of God, McDuffie Street (Anderson, SC), Pinson United Methodist, and Metropolitan Church (Birmingham). She also worked in administrative assistant roles for multiple levels of both church and university organizations. Marla professionally and personally inspired students to reach their full potential in all ministry, academia, and life pursuits. Marla had a missionary’s heart, truly never met a stranger, and impacted everyone with her loving, magnetic spirit. Her living legacy is most evident in the international outpouring of love and support covering her family at this time. Heaven’s gain is our loss, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
