Dean K. Freeland, 89, of Mt. Zion, IL passed away on Friday, October 13, 2017 in his home.

A graveside service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Marrowbone Township Cemetery, Bethany, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. Memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Dean was born on March 11, 1928 in Dalton City, IL the son of David Ewing and Leota (Bankson) Freeland. Dean graduated from Mt. Zion High School and was later drafted into the U.S. Army where he proudly served in Korea from 1955-1957. He then married Joanne Sharp on June 2, 1957 in Bethany, IL. Dean was a lifelong farmer and he thoroughly loved the land. He was a member of Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church, Macon County Farm Bureau and the Macon County Extension Council. He was a board member and past president of the Farmers Co-op Grain Racehorse Flats and trustee of the Milam Township.

Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Joanne; son: John (Tonya) Freeland of Dalton City, IL; daughter: Sandra Freeland of Portland, OR; four grandchildren: Andy (Alyssa) Freeland, Jennifer (Vince) Grove, Kaitlynn Riley and Kieran Riley; two great-grandchidren: Reese Freeland and Patrick Freeland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother: David Ewing Freeland, Jr., two sisters: Gayle Shelton and Mary Embry
