• Bonnie Jean Van Blarcum Ebie Baldwin (1925-2017, 91 years old)

Bonnie Jean Van Blarcum Ebie Baldwin passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct 13th, 2017 at 6:27 pm. at the Sunshine Terrace in Logan, Utah, with her daughters Carol Johnson and Kathy Jones by her side.

While it is impossible to capture the life of this incredible women within the confines of a few paragraphs, here are some of the highlights of the life she created with the time she was gifted on this earth. She was born Dec 30, 1925, to Alfred Austin Van Blarcum and Norma Dee McDuffie in Toledo, Ohio. She was the 3rd of four children, having an older sister (Mariellen) and brother (Al) and a younger sister (Dorothy).

Bonnie's father was a traveling salesman so they moved fairly often. As a child she lived in Toledo, OH; New Orleans & Covington, LA; Denver, CO; Oklahoma City, OK; & Canton, OH.

She graduated from Lincoln High School in Canton, Ohio, in 1944 where she was the assistant business manager of the year book and was on the school newspaper, advertising, and year book staffs. She participated in two of the school plays and was in several after school clubs; her favorite was the history club.

She sent her first true love, Ralph James Ebie, off to WWII and they were married after his discharge on April 21, 1946. They enjoyed a few years together until Ralph died suddenly of polio on July 2, 1949, leaving Bonnie with a 2 ½ year old son (Jimmy), 10 month old daughter (Carol), & 5 months pregnant with daughter (Janet).

At this time she began investigating The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints and was baptized into the church on July 9,1950. Bonnie put her all in everything she did and felt a strong pull to be near the headquarters of the church, so in April of 1951 she moved her little family to Salt Lake City. It's here she met her second love, Clyde Baldwin, from Hilo, Hawaii. He was a sergeant in the Air Force stationed at March Air Force Base in California. They were married July 1, 1953, after moving to Riverside, California.

Over the course of the next five years they had four children: Vickie, Kathy, Bruce, & Peggy. During the next 44 years she and Clyde moved 22 times in the Southern Calif area. She was not one to complain and always found the best in people and situations. She loved family outings; be they drives to the mountains, trips to beach, or camping.
During the time in Southern California, Bonnie occasionally worked part time as an LPN in the community hospital and was often times involved in door to door sales: Watkins, Fuller Brush, Stanley Home Products, Amway, Tupperware, and Avon. In 1977, Bonnie was named “Avon Collector of the Year” and a figurine was made in her honor (you can still find it on Ebay). In the 1960's she was runner up on the TV Game Show, “Queen For A Day.” Bonnie was a woman who chose to live with her whole heart and soul whether it was raising her children, visiting and supporting grandchildren, or serving in her church. Her love for her children was evident as she supported them in Bluebirds, Brownie & Girls Scouts, actively participated in PTA, attended girl’s camp, and helped with countless school projects.

As her children started having families of their own, Bonnie would frequently visit their homes and was the last one to bed and the first one up in the morning because she didn't want to miss anything. She always had a camera in hand to document her children and grandchildren’s lives. Her grandchildren felt of her love as she took time to make a memory book for each one including pictures, report cards, letters, and cards. These books are greatly treasured.

In 2000 Bonnie & Clyde moved to Preston, Idaho. Clyde died in 2005 and Bonnie remained in Preston until 2012. After suffering three mini strokes, she moved to Williamsburg, a senior living center in Logan, Utah. After 4 ½ years at Williamsburg, her health and mobility declined to a point necessitating a move to Sunshine Terrace, in March 2017.

During her adult life she devoted herself to her family and to activity in the church. She will always be remembered for her keen love of family history and has spent 1000's of hours doing research for family and friends. She loved and adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always there to assist them in any way she could. She was a great example of how to make your family your greatest treasure. Bonnie has left an indelible legacy of love and joy upon the hearts of her posterity. She will be greatly missed but always remembered by her family and friends. She is survived by five of her seven children; Carol (Roger) Johnson of Logan, Utah; Vickie (Richard) Free of Mink Creek, Idaho; Kathy (Austin) Jones of Thatcher, Idaho; Bruce (Dana) Baldwin of Shingle Springs, California; & Peggy (Jon) Kelley of Spokane, Washington, and 39 grandchildren, 102 great grandchildren, & 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two spouses, her three siblings, and two of her children.

A Memorial service will be held Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 3:00 pm at the LDS church, 94 West 600 South, Logan. Internment will be in the Logan Cemetery.
