Obituary
Dan Murray Hopper, 68 of Bozeman passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 11, 2017. He was born December 15, 1948 to Eleanor (Allan) and Mark Hopper in Townsend, Montana.
Dan grew up in the Gallatin Valley and attended schools in Three Forks. Dan’s musical career began at an early age listening to his mother play “Nola”, “Country Gardens” and “Claire de Lune” on the piano and his father playing “My Old Kentucky Home” on the harmonica. Dan started piano lessons at the age of 6 and continued until 12th grade. He was an active participant in high school choirs and band. He participated in three All State Choruses and All Northwest Chorus. Dan attended Montana State University and sang with the MSU Choral and double -quartet Chamber Choir. The highlight was a month-long tour of Europe in 1969 visiting and performing in six countries.

With a B.S. in Chemistry, Dan and his first wife Mary Ann (Wormsbecker) and son David, moved from Bozeman to the New York City area in 1971 where he began a lengthy career in the agricultural chemical industry; first with Union Carbide, then Gulf Oil and finally FMC, moving several times in the Midwest and Northeast. Mary Ann passed away in 2002.
Dan returned to Bozeman in 2004 and married Carolyn (Herman). Dan and Carolyn enjoyed many adventures hiking in the mountains, photographing wildflowers, attending concerts, tango dancing and traveling.

Dan was most recently self-employed as a freelance contract technical writer working for MSU, Agricultural Chemical Companies and National Book Publishers.

Dan’s love of music was apparent in his devotion to the piano, his role as the bass Section Leader of the Bozeman Symphonic Choir, his 33-year membership with the Barbershop Harmony Society. As a member of the Bozeman Chord Rustlers, he co-chaired several performances including Veterans Day and Annual shows. For the past several years he coordinated the Singing Valentine program for the chorus. He has been Vice President of Music and Performance, Secretary and President of the Chord Rustlers, He also volunteered as an occasional organist and soloist for the Christian Science Church in Bozeman where he was an active member, including serving as a Reader and member of the Executive Board.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Mary Ann. (Source: http://m.dahlcares.com/obituaries)
