Wentworth was born to Abraham Ginn and Hannah Downs. His father was son of James Ginn, one of the early settlers of Orland, Maine, a ship builder, who built at least one brig and two schooners at his mill in that town.

Wentworth married twice. His first wife was Lenity D. Ridley, who went by Leanora. She was born in 1809 and they were married in 1829, and had the following children:

Sewell Wentworth, born May 25, 1830; married Rebecca Kneeland; died 1863, buried in Sandy Point Cemetery, Sandy Point, Maine;

Isabella Ridley, born September 29, 1832; married John Witham; died 1903;

Francis Gilbert, born May 12, 1834; fought in the Civil War; died September 5, 1923;

Henry Ridley, born July 15, 1836; married Rosilla Trimm in 1858; he died March 12, 1868, and she died just six days later, on March 18, 1868; both buried in Verona Village Cemetery, in Verona, Maine; and

Elijah L. born May 5, 1841; died a few months later, on April 22, 1842.

Wentworth's wife, Lenity, died December 22, 1845, aged only 36, leaving children ages 9 to 15, and a grieving husband.

Wentworth married secondly, Eliza Winchester, on May 25, 1846, and they had the following children:

Charles A., born March 7, 1847; married Carrie Wasgatt; died December 19, 1917, buried Happytown Cemetery, in Orland, Maine;

Mary E., born September 24, 1849; died in early childhood;

Andrew, born March 9, 1851; married Clara Bennett, who died in 1902 and is buried in Dean Hill Cemetery in Orrington, Maine; Andrew died in 1934, and is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor, Maine;

Elias H., born September 14, 1853; married Comfort Emeline Fernald, daughter of Eben Fernald and Sophia Wasgatt; died July 9, 1911, in Tremont, Maine;

Orrin, born March 25, 1855; married Matilla Phebe Harper; died 1926; buried Hillside Cemetery, Penobscot, Maine;

Willard, born January 3, 1858; married Sadie Lavinia Grimes from Nova Scotia; died July 20, 1914 in Boston, Massachusetts, of injuries received from a bad fall;

Harriet Bertelle, born 1860, married Norris Ginn, possibly a cousin; died 1950, buried in Granite Cemetery, Orland, Maine; and

Eldora M., born March 20, 1864; married Frank Clement; died February 7, 1943, buried Castine Cemetery, Castine, Maine.

From the Christian Mirror, Portland, Maine, August 2, 1864, edition:

"The barn of Wentworth Ginn in Orland, together with his horse and wagon, 16 tons of hay, and all his farming utensils, was burned on the night of the 25th (of July). Loss is $1,000. No insurance."

That had to be very difficult.
