SAUMSIEGLE, GENIEVE "Gen" (nee Joslyn) - 91, died on October 9, 2014 at Shore Medical Center. A long-time resident of Needham, Massachusetts, she was born in Randolph, Vermont and was the daughter of Clyde and Jessie Joslyn. Genieve grew up in Waltham, Massachusetts, graduated from Waltham High School in 1939, and received a full scholarship as a member of the first class of Mt. Ida Junior College. She graduated in 1941, but in 1964 she returned to Mt. Ida as Alumnae Secretary and launched, wrote and edited the Alumnae Bulletin. In the 1970's she worked at the lung clinic at Boston City Hospital and in 1974 received her second degree from Mount Ida. She was awarded the Alumnae Achievement Award in 1991 and spoke at commencement that year. Gen enjoyed her job as proofreader for the Needham Times, believing her co-workers kept her "young at heart". In addition to being a loving mother and grandmother, she loved reading, baking, and traveling in the U.S. and Europe. For the past seven years she lived at Brandall Estates in Linwood where she was known for her good humor and wit. She was married to Robert Saumsiegle, currently of Wellesley, Massachusetts. In addition, she is survived by her sister Irene Joslyn Guiney of Needham, her children Steve Saumsiegle (Diana) of Washington, New Jersey, Bill Saumsiegle (Nancy) of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, Tish Saumsiegle Rabe (John) of New York City, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for a later date in Needham. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to: Mt. Ida College, 777 Dedham Ave., Newton, MA. 02459.
