David W. Thornton Sr., 69,of 1062 Bakers Ferry Road in Elberton died May 17, 2006.

A native of Elbert County, he was a son of the late Jamie Thornton and Mary Todd Thornton. He was a member of Middleton Methodist Church and VFW Post 5456. He was a retired stone cutter and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife of the home, Patricia Waddell Thornton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia Lynn Martin of Hartwell and Leisha and Alan Naggie of Elberton; two stepdaughters, Teri Mills and Tammie King, both of Elberton; a son and daughter-in-law, David W. Jr. and Tami Thornton of Elberton; a stepson, Rick Melton of Elberton; four sisters, Wilma McGee of Toccoa, Marion Hosea of Toccoa, Jane Nickles of Anderson, S.C., and Brenda Rice of Elberton; three brothers, Edmond Thornton, Clyde Thornton and John Thornton, all of Elberton; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services were held Friday at Middleton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Alvin Taylor officiating.

Pallbearers were C.J. Brown, Ron Mills, Andred Melton, Trevor Williams, Warren Naggie and Cape Maxwell.
