Kenneth Rolland Zimmerman, this fine, sweet man, our husband and father, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 8, 2017. He leaves behind a rich legacy of faith, family, and hard work. He was a man of action, he taught his family to do and be their best, to have faith and love the Lord, to work hard and be confident, and to love learning and living life.
He was born on September 18, 1933 in Lehi, Utah, the first son of Rolland and Lois Bone Zimmerman. He served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during the Korean war. While on leave from the service, he met Carol Marie Wall. They were married May 13, 1954. Ken earned an undergraduate degree in physics and an MBA from the University of Utah, while working full time to support his young family. He began his professional career selling hot dogs at the Rose Bowl at age 13, followed by working in his father's roofing business. After completing his undergraduate and graduate degrees, he worked at various jobs before founding American Equipment, Inc. He started the company in his basement in 1969 and built the company into a leading regional crane manufacturing, sales and service company. He served with his wife as the Mission President of the California Roseville Mission from 1999 through 2002. He taught his family to ski, to fish, cross a river on the rocks, to love our country and to love black licorice. He maintained a strong sense of duty to his family, his community, his country and his Heavenly Father. He was an avid Ute fan. He was unequivocally honest and generous and expected the same from his family. He had an infectious smile and had a way of making everyone feel like they were his favorite. As the ravages of Parkinson's robbed him of the ability to ski, ride his bike, play the piano, do yoga, and go to work, he continued to teach us patience, perseverance and even greater faith in the Savior. While our hearts our broken, we are so very grateful he is free. We love you and will miss you.
He is survived by his dear wife and love of his life, Carol, his six children and spouses, Kimberly and James Powers, Cynthia and John Gebler, David and Mary Lynne Zimmerman, Pat and Lisa Zimmerman, John and Kristi Zimmerman and Adam and Katie Zimmerman. He is also survived by 22 grand children (and three spouses) and six great grand children, and siblings Brent, David and Rollene.
