Chet (Skip) H. Taylor, 78, of Evanston, IL, Houston, McAllen, & Seguin, TX, passed away on September 27, 2017 in Cedar Park, TX.

A ceremony in his honor will be held at noon on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 18 E. Hampton Dr., Seguin, TX.

Chet was born in Evanston, IL to Admiral Chester Taylor, Jr., and Shirley Richardson on April 28, 1939. He went to Lamar High School in Houston and played varsity football. Chet received a BA from the University of Texas at Austin, MA from Mexico City College, and D of A and PhD from Oregon State University. He was a professor at Pan-American University in Edinburg, TX and also owned and managed apartments in the area. He was always involved baseball and followed football and basketball. At age 68 he received a Most Valuable Player award from the Senior Texan Softball League in Mission, TX. Throughout his life in the Rio Grande Valley, he wrote and published poetry. In his later years, Chet continued this passion winning many poetry contests both in state and nationally.

Chet is preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Shirley Taylor, and Anita Olsen.

Chet is survived by his beloved spouse of 25 years, Lillian Taylor, and ex-wife Karen Shirley, by his step-children and their spouses Valerie and Michael Daubert, and Daniel and Brooke Cambon, Dena Shirley, David Shirley, Julie and Charles Spilker, John and Linda Olsen. His is also survived by his brother Josiah Taylor and wife Mary Alice, and by his sisters Catherine and husband Stephen Kane, and Anne and husband Phil Harper. Chet will be dearly missed by his grandchildren Natalie and Abby Daubert, and Beckett Cambon. Chet also leaves behind his nieces Alexandra Bambas-Nolen, Megan and Stephanie Harper, and nephews Darren and Roger Taylor, and Benjamin and Taylor Perry and their spouses. Furthermore, he will also be missed by his sisters and brothers-in-law Tom Olsen, Cristina and Carlos de Juana, and Daniel and Linda Downing, and their children, Carlos and Rodrigo de Juana, James and Greg Downing, Sarah and Rebecca Kelly, and their spouses and children, and numerous extended family in Mexico City.

Donations may be given to the Alzheimer’s Texas, Globe Aware Mexico Earthquake Relief Fund, and the Hispanic Federation for Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief.

The family of Chet Taylor wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the community at Cedar Ridge Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Cedar Park, TX, for their loving care and support.

“Wanting to Come Back”

If I get through this, I will live again
But what I can’t stand is Lilly to stay sad.
In the last of days
Lilly stays sad
Now I’m glad I don’t have to see
As death is better than sadness –
Maybe it’s better to choose.
