Decatur-Doris M. Carr, 85, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2017 in Fair Havens Christian Home with her family by her side.
Doris was born July 13, 1932 in Decatur, Illinois, the daughter of Frank and Thelma (Owens) Starbody. She was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed rummage sales, antiquing, shopping, and reading her Amish books. Doris married Paul Denton Carr on June 23, 1950. He preceded her in death January 22, 2013.
Doris is survived by her children Sandy (Jeffery) Smarsh, Pam (Richard) Benedict, John (Vicki) Carr, and Lisa (Dale) Marshall, sister Linda (Tom) Howe, grandchildren Shane (Sherri) Strocher, Stephanie Crowe (fiancé José), Rachel Benedict, Nolan (Ashley) Benedict, Justin (Erin) Marshall, Joseph Carr (Margaree), Daniel (Erica) Carr, and Dylan Marshall, and twelve great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers John, Bill, Bob, and Gene Starbody, sister Rosemary Snoke, daughter Suzanne Strocher, and great-grandson Maddox.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Eagle Ridge, Fair Havens, and DMH Hospice for all of their loving care.
Services to celebrate Doris’ life will be 11:00 AM Friday, October 13, 2017 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the South Macon Public Library.
