Sarah was a United Empire Loyalist whose family evacuated from Connecticut to Kingston, NB. Her father, Benajah Northrup was granted a 'Loyalist Lot' by the Crown, beside that granted to Captain John Lyon (Sarah's father-in-law).

Sarah was the oldest child of Benajah and Sarah (Keeler) Northrup UE. Sarah married Dec 9 1790 to John Lyon Jr. UE.

In 1790 John Lyon Jr and Sarah were granted Lot 30 near Kingston and in 1791 they purchased parts of Lot 2 & 3 on Shampers Bluff approx. 2.5 km from the village of Kingston. They built a house on Lot 2 and they are buried in a family gravesite immediately behind the house in a cedar grove.

They had 11 children:
1) Hannah
2) Nancy (b. approx 1793. d. Nov 2 1851)
3) GEORGE HENRY (b. Mar 27 1794, d. May 11 1864)
4) Philo Alonzo
5) James Bowen
6) Mary
7) Betsy Matilda
8) David Alanson
9) Walter Wilson
10) Sarah Malinda
11) John Lewis

David Alanson inherited the farm on Shamper's Bluff. George Henry, James Bowen (aka Boaing), Philow, William Henry (John Jr's brother) all relocated to land grants in Petersville Parish, NB (immediately across the St.John River).
