Geraldine "Jerry" K. Burns, of Watertown, age 94, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, March 8, 2018. A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Jerry at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Watertown with Father Michael Wensing officiating.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., with a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 12, 2018 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Watertown.

Memorials may be directed to the Watertown Boys & Girls Club or the Holy Name Foundation.

Jerry was born at Selby, SD, on July 8, 1923, to August and Veronica (Koll) Hagen. She was raised in Selby and Aberdeen, and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School and Northern State College. Jerry taught elementary school at McLaughlin, Vallejo, CA, and Rochester, MN, before moving to Watertown where she taught briefly at McKinley and Roosevelt Elementary Schools.

She married Francis Burns November 21, 1951. She dedicated her time to making a home for her husband and their children. She often volunteered as a substitute teacher at Holy Name School until it closed in 1967.

She and Francis were founding members of Holy Name Parish. During WWII she was active in the USO in California. She enjoyed many pastimes, especially golf, sewing and playing bridge.

Jerry is survived by four children, Cheryl Burns of San Antonio, TX, Tom (Carolyn) Burns of Watertown, Patte (Tony) Downing of Aberdeen, and Kathy (Larry) Peterson of Sisseton; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; her sister Bonnie Schoch of Bismarck, ND, brother Francis (Darlene) Hagen of Plymouth, MN, and sister Rose Marie (John) Fridgen of Ortonville, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband Francis, an infant daughter Caroline, her parents, and her sister Doris Smith.
